September R.E.C.A.P.
The books, podcasts, and items that have added value this month.
Reading
Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway – This month’s read was in the self-help category. I have heard this book come up on several podcasts as a recommendation and I finally decided to check it out. The book was written by the late Susan Jeffers in 1987 and even though it’s several decades old, the teachings and principles of the book are still super relevant. My biggest takeaway from this book is that everyone feels fear, and as long as you are growing, you are going to encounter fear. Rather than being paralyzed by fear and not taking action, know that whenever you do something new you are going to feel discomfort.
25 Little Ways to Reset Yourself for Fall – A fun list to inspire you to reset yourself for the fall season!
Eating
Azuki Sushi – I’m a creature of habit and pretty much never stray away from the same two sushi spots in San Diego. Bobby and I stepped out of our box and went to Azuki Sushi in Bankers Hill and I was beyond impressed! They have indoor/outdoor seating and a full sushi bar, but the real gem is the intimate five-person bar in their cozy upstairs dining room. We got lucky and didn’t have to wait for a bar seat, but I highly recommend making a reservation because it was packed. Our bartender was awesome and helped us navigate the selections of sakes, Japanese whiskeys, and sashimi, and everything was delicious! 10/10 recommend for your next date night spot or dinner catching up with a girlfriend.
Ground Turkey Sweet Potato Bake – Now that it’s officially fall, I’ve been craving more nourishing meals and sweet potatoes are the perfect root vegetable that packs lots of healthy fiber and Vitamin A. I recommend prepping on a Sunday and reheating throughout the week for easy leftovers. The author even suggests adding a runny egg for a hearty breakfast in the morning which I am going to try next time I make this! I subbed ground beef instead of ground turkey just because I like the flavor profile better, and it turned out great. Don’t forget to load it up with lots of parmesan cheese!
Community
I finally got to meet my nephew Harley and spend quality time with my family in AZ. He’s the sweetest little baby and I loved soaking in all the baby snuggles – congratulations to my sister and her family!
We have officially kicked off planning for our third annual Designing Dreams Hope for the Holidays gala which will take place on Friday, December 13th at Bldg 177 in Liberty Station! I’ve been involved in the event planning committee for the past two years and I’m so honored to be part of this organization making an impact on children battling childhood cancer. If you want to attend or make a donation, you can do so here. There are also opportunities for sponsorships and auction items if you feel called to do so and support <3.

Podcasts
Botox Poisoning and What Your Esthetician Isn't Telling You – I’ve heard multiple people recently encounter Botox poisoning, and hearing this esthetician’s experience firsthand with this was eye opening. I’m not against anyone who decides to get Botox, and I’ve gotten it in the past myself, but it makes me think if we really know the long-term effects of injecting toxins into our body, and at what cost are we trying to prevent signs of aging?
Conspiracies, Health Truths, Big Pharma, Public Vs Home School, & What They Don't Want You To Know – This episode goes all over the place (as the title of the episode insinuates!). For anyone who is curious about big pharma, big food, and the pros and cons of public vs home schooling, this episode is an entertaining listen.
Thanks for recapping September with me! I hope everyone stays healthy, gets lots of rest, and takes care of themselves going into the holidays!
