What is Lagree?

Everything you need to know about your new favorite workout.

If you landed at my website, chances are you are already familiar with Lagree and practicing regularly, or you are a supportive family member or friend (hiii!).  Regardless, I’m happy you are here and wanted to break down the Lagree method and the biggest misconceptions regarding the workout.

First and foremost, LAGREE IS NOT PILATES.  People often confuse the methods since the Megaformer used in Lagree resembles the reformer used in Pilates, but that’s pretty much where the similarities stop.  I often have first time clients come to class and the minute I ask them “have you taken a Lagree class before?,” I get a confused look like I just spoke a foreign language. Two separate men (Joseph Pilates and Sebastian Lagree) created two different methods – and both are great for different reasons!  Ok, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, we can dive into what the heck Lagree is and why I love this form of movement so much.

To summarize Lagree and what I often give as my “elevator pitch,” Lagree is a high intensity, low impact core, strength, and endurance workout that utilizes a Megaformer controlled by resistance-based springs to create long, lean, and toned results.   Each movement is based on body building principles such as squats, lunges, and planks to build muscular strength and muscular endurance.

To set expectations, it usually takes anywhere from 3-6 classes until you start to understand the movements and get the hang of the machine, but everyone is different.  Each class is designed to be all levels so whether you are a beginner or regular, there are always ways to increase or decrease the intensity of each move so that it’s safe and effective for everyone in class.

One of the reasons I love this form of movement is that it’s easy on the joints which makes it safe for those with injuries or sensitive joints, and the results speak for themselves!  When practicing regularly, you will quickly start to notice not only your physical body getting stronger and more toned, but also your mental strength too!  Honestly one of the hardest parts of class is quieting that little voice in your head that is going to tell you to give up.

Lagree is practiced worldwide and one of my favorite activities when traveling is to try out a local Lagree studio.  Each studio has their own vibe and use different versions of the Megaformer, but since the method is universal, the movements are all the same which makes it easy to jump into a class no matter where in the world you practice.

See you on the Megaformer soon! :)
