What’s in my gym bag.

What I never leave the house without as a fitness instructor.

I love learning about what other people are doing, eating, and carrying around in their bags.  I’m opening my gym bag and giving you a peek into what I always have on hand to keep me organized and prepared to coach group fitness classes.  Here are the items that I never leave the house without before coaching a class:

 Microphone Heads

Keep a clean, fresh set of microphone heads on you so that you aren’t sharing germs with your fellow instructors.

iPhone Dongle

If you have the new iPhone, you probably already know that iPhone is changing its adapters.  Depending on where you teach and what the music system is, you might have to bring your own dongle to hook up to the AUV system.  This one from Amazon does the trick.

Pill Organizer

Because you’ll need something small to keep your microphone heads protected from germ particles in your gym bag.  I like this one from Amazon – it’s small and has 6 separate areas for microphone heads. I use the bigger section for my iPhone dongle.

Microphone Belt

While not necessary, I find that it’s much more comfortable to use the microphone belt rather than stuffing the mic pack in your leggings.

Extra Stopwatches

A lot of instructors use their Apple watch to keep time, but I’m old school and prefer a handheld stopwatch.  I always keep extra in my bag just in case the one at the studio is dead.

Routine Notebook

Once I’ve written my routine in my Lagree routine builder, I transfer it to a small notebook that I can throw in my bag without taking up too much room.  I usually have my routines memorized, but it’s comforting having my routine out just in case I forget which leg we are on or which variation I included.

Nontoxic Tampons

Usually studios have tampons available if you need them, but I’ll admit, when it comes to feminine products I’m a bit of a snob.  There are so many chemicals in traditional tampons, and if you follow me, you know I’m all about that non-toxic living.  If you haven’t made the swap to non-toxic feminine products, I really like this brand that you can purchase on Amazon.  The chemicals from feminine products seep directly into your skin and blood stream, so I would rather use a non-toxic product and avoid the chemicals that can potentially disrupt your hormones.

Lip Butter Balm

The holy grail of lip gloss is always in my gym bag.  I like the vanilla for a sheer gloss that makes my lips feel hydrated since as an instructor, you are constantly talking.

LMNT Hydration Packets

As an instructor it’s so important to stay hydrated!  These packets help me keep my water intake high.

Snacks

You never know when hunger will strike while you are coaching.  That’s why I always keep snacks in my bag for those emergencies between classes.  I usually keep a couple Chomps Beef Jerky Sticks and Go Macro bars in my bag.  If I’m coaching early in the morning, I’ll pack a yogurt or chia seed pudding for extra fuel.

If you are an instructor, what other items would you add to this list?  Let me know what your non-negotiables are when coaching a group class!
